Plot summary
In the year AD 30, Judea is under Roman rule. Mary, a woman from the town of Magdala, decides to follow Jesus of Nazareth. Her father and the rest of her family try to keep her from leaving home, and she sends them away. She accepts baptism from Jesus and the task he sets for her and the other apostles. She stands alongside them, speaking of the spirit of Jesus at work in her. That claim brings her into conflict with the male disciples, Peter among them.
