Plot summary
Mary works as an addiction counselor in Toronto while hiding her alcohol problem. After a drunk-driving arrest, she is placed on leave and her boyfriend ends the relationship. Still denying her addiction, Mary returns to Niagara Falls, where her estranged father, Walt, has been urging her to meet Robyn, the teenage half-sister she has never known. On arrival, Mary learns Walt is terminally ill with lung cancer and that Robyn does not know Mary exists. Pressured to help, Mary begins attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. There she meets Lou, a former drug user who works in home care. Lou helps Mary find a job and gives her advice about dealing with Walt.
