Plot summary
Two people go missing in the woods along the Appalachian Trail, and Sheriff Grady Barnes finds parts of one of the bodies. A cast left at the site identifies the animal as a six-hundred pound Bengal tiger, so the sheriff warns the town at a press conference. Roy Satterly glimpses the tiger at his bedroom window one night, then turns up the next morning wandering the woods in his sleep. A tabloid offers a reward for the tiger, drawing hunters and reporters into the town, and the sheriff bans hunting in the woods. Six National Guardsmen arrive under Sergeant Winshiser, along with Colonel James Livingston-Graham, an English big game hunter and tracker.

- Maneater used no CGI at all: the killer tiger was played by real trained tigers, and in the chase scenes the tiger was actually on a leash with its trainer walking behind it, both removed during post-production.
