Plot summary
At Edgewood Asylum, Dr. Walter Newman runs DNA experiments that he believes can end human deformities. The research absorbs him, and he lets his duties to the patients in his care slide. His wife, Olivia, who is pregnant with twins, sees him drift further from her, and she wonders whether his nurse, Ms. Tinsley, holds some influence over him. Twenty-five years afterward, on a dark road in freezing weather, a van stops. Liz Holliman, who is with the Roslyn Center for the Deaf, is riding with several teenagers and their driver, Jeff Thomas. The group walks through the woods and takes shelter in an old building, the Edgewood Asylum.
