Plot summary
Richard Politzer, once the boyfriend of the journalist Paula Nelson, had been writing editorials for a communist magazine in Atlantic-Cité. When Paula arrives in the town to see him, she is told that he is dead and that a heart attack is the explanation. Edgar Typhus, who worked with Richard at some point, pushes his way into her hotel room and says he wants to help her find out what happened. She knocks him unconscious and pulls him into the next room, which belongs to his nephew, the writer David Goodis, who shares it with Doris Mizoguchi. Paula then pursues the matter by herself, and the local police inspector, Paul Widmark, together with a man called Donald Siegel, begins following her.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Made in U.S.A (1966)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Neither Jean-Luc Godard nor the producer got permission or paid for the rights to adapt Richard Stark's novel The Jugger, so Donald E. Westlake brought legal action and Made in U.S.A went unreleased in the United States for more than four decades.
- Godard rushed Made in U.S.A together to help his friend and producer Georges de Beauregard, who was in financial trouble after the censorship of Jacques Rivette's The Nun (1966), a film de Beauregard also produced.
- It was the last feature-length film Godard and Anna Karina made together; they worked once more when he directed her in a segment of the 1967 anthology film The Oldest Profession.
- In a bar scene, Marianne Faithfull sings "As Tears Go By", a song that had already been a hit for her in 1964.
