Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Madame Web (2024)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Sony's January 2024 reshoots of Madame Web removed references to its original 1990s setting, which would have let Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man exist in its continuity; the studio instead wanted Tom Holland's version, so the timeline was shifted to a 2003 setting.
- Before Dakota Johnson was cast as Cassie Webb, Sony wanted a prominent actress such as Charlize Theron or Amy Adams for the title role, met several A-listers and narrowed its shortlist in December 2021 and January 2022, with Johnson becoming the frontrunner by the end of 2021.
- A line from the trailer spoken by Dakota Johnson, "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.", was mocked so widely that memes put it into other films' quotes, and it was cut from the final film.
- Sony had the Madame Web script shortened by 20-30 pages immediately before filming began, resulting in a plot described as disjointed, with what were called act two and three problems.
- Because Cassie's visions showed slightly altered outcomes, the crew often filmed multiple versions of the same scene, and Dakota Johnson sometimes conferred with director S. J. Clarkson to work out which scenes were real and which were in Cassie's head.
- Madame Web was the first film to carry Columbia Pictures' new logo for the studio's 100th anniversary, a CG animated version of the "Lady with the Torch" iconography.
