Plot summary
Noelle, an introverted graduate student in Balboa University's visual arts program, is raped by classmate Luke Owen in his bedroom during a party at his place. Her roommate Skye urges her to stay silent, saying the university silenced and humiliated a woman who once reported an assault. Campus psychotherapist Melinda Sanders asks Noelle how much she had drunk and whether she said no. Noelle finds a news story about three football players and Kappa Phi fraternity brothers, Mason Fischer, Jeremiah Marx and Conor McGingley, acquitted of sexual assault charges. She locates their accuser, Lindsey Shaw, and proposes a thesis project about the men who raped them. A campus rape prevention peer group she meets with focuses on defensive measures and online activism.
