Plot summary
Sara Matthews travels from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles for her first year of college, where she studies fashion design. She meets Tracy, who enjoys parties, Stephen, who becomes her boyfriend, and Rebecca, her wealthy but shy roommate. Rebecca looks much like Sara and is willing to share everything with her. They grow close. Rebecca hears about Emily, the older sister Sara lost at nine, and about Jason, a former boyfriend who keeps phoning. As Sara makes friends on campus, Rebecca becomes resentful.
