Plot summary

The gemstone called the Mermaid's Scale goes up for sale at an auction held underground and kept secret. A woman known as the queen of the underworld coerces Arsène Lupin III into stealing the stone for her. He takes the job, and the piece he hands her is a counterfeit. The real Mermaid's Scale, he learns, is one part of a riddle that nobody has solved, and that riddle promises to transcend mortality.
