Plot summary
A music teacher at a Catholic school, George has shared 39 years with Ben when the two marry. Word of the wedding reaches the archdiocese, and George loses his job. The pair cannot keep their New York apartment, so they sell it and separate, each staying with people close to them. Ben moves into the Brooklyn home of his nephew Elliot, Elliot's wife Kate, who writes novels, and their teenage son Joey. George takes a room with Roberto and Ted, their former neighbors, a younger couple who both work for the NYPD. Still partners, the two men find ways to be together while each household makes room for one more person.
