Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

Friends, fellow musicians and family members sit for interviews, and concert footage from across the decades fills out the portrait, while Linda Ronstadt herself narrates. The account opens with her childhood in Tucson, Arizona, where she sang Mexican canciones at home with her relatives, and follows her into folk rock as a young woman with the Stone Poneys, her first professional band. It goes on to her early appearances at the Troubadour, a West Hollywood club, and to her years in Santa Monica, California, then to the 1970s, when she became a leading figure in country rock. Her work for women in an industry dominated by men, her romance with California Governor Jerry Brown, and her move into opera, the Great American Songbook and songs from her Mexican heritage all feature.
