Plot summary
Duffy is a veteran who cannot settle anywhere, and he drifts from town to town with a suitcase and just enough money to reach the next stop. In Los Angeles a poker game at a roadhouse turns into a fight when a man tries to cheat him, and Duffy handles the bullies who come at him. Max Bomer, an ex-con who manages fighters for an underground fight club, is watching, and Duffy reminds him of his brother, a veteran with no outlet for his rage. Max offers Duffy a bout and a place to stay with his sister Rachel and her daughter. Max owes money to Sage Parker, who runs a gym and the fights, and Sage answers to Detective Ellen Ridgway, who uses her badge to keep the operation under her control. Duffy takes the fight.
