Plot summary
Colleen Gibson does not know that Dick Rasmusson, her live-in boyfriend and a third-rate private detective, is cheating on her, until the phony psychic Madame Hugonaut passes on accurate details about his latest fling. Colleen confronts him holding a gun she thinks is empty; Dick had loaded it, and she shoots him dead. Daniel Gallagher wants to be a singer, and in his career as a hit man he has yet to kill anyone. Dick was next on his list, so Daniel claims the killing as his own when he reports to Jared O'Reilly, the mobster who is his brother-in-law. Jared responds by giving him many more assignments, and Daniel turns to Colleen to carry them out.
