Plot summary
Teenagers keep disappearing from Emily Sparks's small town, and the twelve-year-old wants to know where they go. Emily is an outcast at school, where other students blame her for a death she believes was her fault; her only friend is Christopher, a boy who believes in extraterrestrials. One night five figures in black hoodies, their eyes solid black, knock at her door and ask to be let in. Emily calls the police and hides upstairs, but the sheriff finds no sign of intruders and puts it down to the kids who bully her. A journalist, Harold Lutz, comes to the door to report on the mounting disappearances.
