Plot summary

Troy and his son Jake have lived off the grid in the woods for more than twenty years, since an apocalyptic event destroyed much of civilization. Troy has drilled Jake on treating any outsider as an immediate danger, and he kills and buries anyone who comes upon them. When an outsider shoots Troy, Jake leaves their camp to find antibiotics. He watches a woman working outside a house but cannot bring himself to kill her, so he slips inside and takes antibiotics and steroids before returning home. He then hides food to make his father think their supplies are low, giving himself a reason to go hunting, and goes back to the woman's house, where she tells him her name is Henrietta.
