Plot summary
Kev and his young son Chook are on the run across the Australian outback, moving by car and on foot. Kev is wanted by the police. They steal cars and rob for cash, shoplift food and beer, and each night they sleep somewhere different: with friends, in the outback, or in a place they break into. Chook carries the memory of a night with Max, of Kev finding them and beating Max, and of leaving after that. Kev tells his son that Max is all right, that he was breathing when they left. Chook says that Max did not hurt him, that Max was only lonely.
