Plot summary
Sam Pivnic never gets to propose to Georgia Outerbridge; gangsters murder her first. Overwhelmed by grief, he flees to Paris, where he endures a desolate existence and visits the cinema for comfort. Three years later a Hollywood film shows him her face again, credited to a renowned actress named Lauren Clerk. His hope revives when he recognizes her likeness, and, driven by obsession with his past love, he returns to Los Angeles to learn the truth about the woman on the screen. There he meets Kat Zaro, who decides on impulse to join his search. His questions lead him back among the criminals he fled.
