Did you know?!Facts and trivia about La Mission (2009)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Raising financing was among the film's production challenges: writer-director Peter Bratt said he and his brother, star Benjamin Bratt, were told "more than a few times that 'the gay thing' had already been done and was now passe," and they could not get support from the Latino or Native American communities, where homosexuality remains taboo.
- The film was shot on an eco-friendly set, one of the first of its kind in San Francisco: cast and crew cut out water bottles and composted, the art department allowed green product placement, and La Mission earned an Environmental Media Association Green Seal Award in 2009.
- Peter Bratt considered filming in New Mexico, where tax rebates let productions shoot cheaply, but settled on San Francisco's Mission District, saying he thinks it is one of the most unique American neighborhoods and its character "kind of informs the story."
