Plot summary
In 1944, two fighter pilots, the American Hank Marlow and the Japanese Gunpei Ikari, come down by parachute on a South Pacific island following a dogfight. Their fight is cut short by a giant ape. In 1973, Bill Randa, who leads the organization Monarch, persuades the government to back a research trip to Skull Island, which has just been found. He recruits an Army helicopter unit under Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard, tracker James Conrad and Mason Weaver, a photographer opposed to the war. Weaver has misgivings about the mission. On the island, the soldiers drop seismic charges that map the ground below, and the ape appears.
