Plot summary
In 1913, Tommy Murphy is the luckiest man in town. Caitlin O'Leary, said to be a witch, dances with him at the festival. Violet kisses Tommy in front of her, and when he tries to hold Caitlin back, he rips her dress. Humiliated, Caitlin curses Tommy and all his descendants with bad luck, and the misfortune passes down through the family. His great-great-granddaughter Meg Murphy wants it gone. In Tommy's diary she reads that giving his lucky coin to a descendant of Caitlin will break the curse. Her brother Charlie helps her steal the lucky coin from the museum in Harvest Hills. Her school nemesis Ivy Murray is an O'Leary descendant, and Brett, Ivy's cousin, is one as well.
