Plot summary
Jack is eighteen and has no parents. She has been raising her sister, Coke, who is eleven, and when social services place Coke in foster care, Jack learns that a stable income is what she needs to gain custody. Jack is also a runaway, wanted by her probation officer, and needs somewhere to lay low. She takes the resume of a therapist named Donna and uses that identity to get work as a live-in companion for Glory, the autistic daughter of Kay and Mark. Glory is about Coke's age. The job challenges Jack at first, and she forms a connection with Glory.
