Plot summary
In Edwardian England, Ivy Lexton craves luxury, but her husband Jervis has poor prospects and she is already carrying on an affair with Dr. Roger Gretorex, who is devoted to her. When she meets wealthy Miles Rushworth, she sets her sights on him. Miles finds her appealing, but after they share a single kiss, he steps back because she is married. Ivy then asks Jervis for a divorce, but he refuses. Now she is trapped between a husband who will not let go and an infatuated lover, so she starts considering how to eliminate both obstacles and win Miles.
