Niamh Cusack
Biography
Niamh Cusack is an Irish actress who was born in Dalkey, County Dublin, into a performing family and trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She began her stage career in 1985 and went on to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre, playing roles such as Desdemona, Juliet, and Portia. On television, she played Dr. Kate Rowan in the British series Heartbeat and appeared in Always and Everyone, The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends, and episodes of Agatha Christie's Marple, Midsomer Murders, A Touch of Frost, Death in Paradise, and The Tower. Her film credits include The Closer You Get (2000), Testament of Youth (2014), Departure (2015), and Chick Lit (2016). She was nominated for an IFTA Award for Too Good to be True and for a Whatsonstage.com Award for The Playboy of the Western World.

A change of course
Before becoming an actor, Niamh Cusack was a professional flautist who studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London on a scholarship, and she later trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
First role
Cusack started her stage career in 1985 as Irina in a Royal Exchange, Manchester production of Chekhov's Three Sisters. She then played Desdemona opposite Ben Kingsley for the RSC, and in 1986 was Juliet opposite Sean Bean's Romeo.
Languages
Cusack received her education in Dublin, where she was taught bilingually, and she is fluent in both Irish, or Gaeilge, and English.
Beyond film
Cusack played Molly Bloom in a nine-part BBC Radio 4 adaptation of James Joyce's Ulysses that began on Bloomsday in 2012.
