Plot summary
Her father, Hank, has raised Caroline Daniels since her mother, Deborah, abandoned her as an infant. Caroline works at a gas station in rural Texas, and she is desperate to leave her small town and to find the mother she has never known. Oliver Anderson, a con artist, comes through the station and runs a short change scam on her employer's business. The two fall in love, and Caroline runs away with him, traveling through the Southeast toward South Carolina, where Deborah lives. Along the way they carry out scams across the South, including small bank robberies.
