Plot summary
Stanley Windrush is a naive young man who makes a poor impression at one job interview after another. His uncle Bertram Tracepurcel and Tracepurcel's old army comrade Sidney DeVere Cox steer him into an unskilled job at Tracepurcel's missile factory, Missiles Ltd. The communist shop steward Fred Kite at first wants him sacked for having no union card, then takes him under his wing and offers him a room in his house. When a time and motion expert tricks Stanley into demonstrating how quickly he can move goods on his forklift truck, Kite calls the workers out on strike to protect their rates.
