Plot summary
In Marin County, California, Stella Payne is a successful stockbroker and the single parent of eleven-year-old Quincy. Her friends and family say she has gone too long without a relationship. She sends Quincy to stay with his father for two weeks, sees an advertisement for vacations in Jamaica, and phones Delilah Abraham, her best friend from college, in New York City. Delilah talks her into a first-class trip to Montego Bay. On her first morning on the island, Winston Shakespeare, a chef's assistant twenty years her junior, approaches her at breakfast and proposes they meet later that night at the hotel's disco pajama party. He pursues her, and a romance begins.
