Plot summary
Kathy Baldock, a straight Christian activist, and Ed Oxford, an LGBTQIA+ Christian researcher and seminary graduate, trace how anti-gay theology took hold in the American church. Their search centers on two Koine Greek terms in the New Testament and on the committee of biblical scholars that the National Council of Churches gathered in 1946 to modernize the Bible. That committee's Revised Standard Version used a word for the passage in 1 Corinthians that no earlier translation had used. In the summer of 2017 the pair become the first researchers to examine related archives at Yale University, and they put what they find to scholars, pastors and theologians.

- Filmmaker Sharon "Rocky" Roggio was a lesbian Christian, and her own father, a pastor, held a belief in biblical literalism that led him to estrange her from her family when she was forcibly outed.
- The film interviews David Fearon, who challenged the Bible's translation of the disputed words as a seminary student back in 1959 but was told by scholars at the time that even if inaccurate, the damage was already done.
