Plot summary
The 1991 film JFK was followed by the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992, which set up a review board to release documents about the case. Working from that material, from a 1992 book on the subject and from newly released files, the documentary returns to what happened in Dallas on November 22, 1963. It disputes the evidence behind the single bullet that wounded President John F. Kennedy and Governor John Connally. A researcher who has written on the case describes witness statements that question how soon Lee Harvey Oswald was on the move immediately after the shooting.

- Oliver Stone called the documentary "an important bookend to my 1991 film", saying it ties up many loose threads and hopefully repudiates much of the ignorance around the case and the movie. It premiered on July 12, 2021 in the Cannes Premiere section at the Cannes Film Festival.
- The documentary began as a far bigger project, originally conceived as a four-hour epic under the title JFK: Destiny Betrayed. In the version that was released, the narration is shared by Whoopi Goldberg and Donald Sutherland.
