Plot summary
A criminal outfit called Skizm has turned fights to the death into a wildly popular live stream. Miles Lee Harris, a computer programmer, posts mocking comments in Skizm's chat aimed at the people who watch murders as entertainment. Riktor, the kingpin who runs the site, breaks into Miles' apartment with his henchmen, and Miles wakes to find a gun bolted through each hand. He has been entered into the game and matched against Nix, its deadliest killer. Nix wants out, but Riktor requires that she kill Miles first. She tracks his phone, and when he tries to reason with her, she shoots up his apartment while he escapes down the fire escape. In a park he runs into his ex-girlfriend Nova Alexander, who flees when he tells her what has happened and brings the matter to Detective Degraves.
