Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Gorgeous (1999)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jackie Chan had long wanted to make drama films but was dissuaded by Leonard Ho, co-founder of Golden Harvest and Chan's godfather, who argued he should avoid love scenes that might alienate markets such as Japan. After Ho died on 16 February 1998, Chan left Golden Harvest to make the films he wanted.
- The only significant kissing scene was dropped from the finished film for fear it would alienate East Asian markets that might not accept Jackie Chan in such a relationship. The underwater kiss was kept and shown among the out-takes over the closing credits.
- Gorgeous was first conceived as a pure love story with Jackie Chan only producing, not acting. To secure actress Shu Qi, the script was rewritten, a role was created for Chan, and it grew into a starring part with action elements added.
- The director wanted to use Jackie Chan's own office as the set for C.N.'s apartment, but it proved impractical, partly because that section of the office is on the third floor. Props from Chan's office, including his own training dummy, were used instead.
- The film is notable for casting then-unknown actors who went on to national and multi-national success, among them Sam Lee, Daniel Wu, Richie Jen and Stephen Fung.
