Plot summary
Elias and Lukas have spent the time since their parents' divorce living with their father. Now they return to the country house to stay with their mother, a former actress whose head is wrapped in bandages after cosmetic surgery. She sets rules that they are not to go into her room or the barn. The boys find her drinking, quick to anger and unwilling to sing the lullaby she once sang to them, and Elias spots his own drawing of the family in the trash. Then he overhears her on the phone saying she cannot keep pretending and wants someone gone, and the boys see an old photograph in which her eyes are a different color.
