Plot summary
James works nights as a video archivist at a local television station, still grieving the disappearance of his wife Hannah three years earlier. Digitizing old broadcast tapes, he finds a pirate signal that cut into programming: a figure in a distorted white rubber mask speaking in a garbled voice. Research turns up similar unsolved intrusions from late 1987 and from the early 1990s, each near the disappearance of a woman, and one of those women resembles Hannah. A former FCC investigator, Dr. Stuart Lithgow, waves him off, calling the case abandoned. James keeps going anyway, joined by Alice, a young woman with troubles of her own, and the two work through clues planted in the footage: Morse code, strange audio, phone numbers.
