Plot summary
The Wentworth Plaza, a hotel at Lake Waxapahachie in New Hampshire, is where wealthy guests gather for the summer. Dick Curtis works its front desk while he puts himself through medical school. Matilda Prentiss, careful with her money, pays Dick to keep her daughter Ann company, and Dick's fiancée Arline Davis agrees to the arrangement. Matilda wants Ann to marry T. Mosley Thorpe, a middle-aged millionaire who is an expert on snuffboxes. Ann has different plans. Matilda's son Humbolt Prentiss has married more than once before, and each time his mother has settled the trouble.
