Did you know?!Facts and trivia about From Hell to Texas (1958)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Dennis Hopper, trained as a Method actor, walked off the set of From Hell to Texas several times over clashes with director Henry Hathaway, who kept ordering him to hit his mark and say his lines. Afterwards Hopper was branded "difficult," lost his Hollywood contract, and made no major studio film until The Sons of Katie Elder in 1965.
- Barbara McLean, then head of editing at 20th Century Fox, and Henry Hathaway spent an entire weekend with almost no rest re-editing the film after Hathaway was horrified by the cut her son Johnny Ehrin had turned in while he was off directing another movie.
- Don Murray turned down the role of Tod Lohman because he found the script, then titled The Hell-Bent Kid, filled with unnecessary violence; according to columnist Hedda Hopper he agreed only after a full rewrite, then took daily riding lessons to get in shape.
SPOILER
Don Murray refused to play a killer, so the script was rewritten so that the man his character shoots is shown to survive.- Henry Hathaway called the script "rotten" and took the film only because it was the one project available at Fox; he and Wendell Mayes then rewrote it in two weeks.
