Plot summary
The film opens at the start of a Formula 1 race and goes on to recount episodes, celebrated and little known, from the careers of the sport's most famous drivers. Sydne Rome conducts the interviews: Niki Lauda, Carlos Reutemann, Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt and Hans-Joachim Stuck are among the champions who take part, alongside Regazzoni, Villeneuve and Patrese. Bernie Ecclestone and Marlene Lauda also appear. Footage shot on well-known circuits around the world is placed beside those conversations, and the accidents that have happened on those tracks receive particular attention. The film does not examine the social background of the drivers.
