Plot summary
In a New York restaurant, Andy waits with his fiancée Liz for friends to arrive and tells her the story of how his friend Mickey met Ellen. Mickey, a referee in the NBA, has come to France to bury his father alongside his World War II platoon, but the airline loses the coffin. Ellen, an American who works for that airline in Paris, helps him locate it and attends the burial so he will not stand there alone. He shares the drive back to the city with her and delays his return home to spend a week with her in a place he has never visited. They fall in love, and the start of the season pulls him back to the States and onto the road, where he spends more nights than he does at home.
