Plot summary
In Scottsville, the yearly apple blossom festival is normally the town's only event worth noticing, so Police Chief Sam Taylor has little patience when Ally Parks, a young officer from the big city, treats the mutilated death of Prof. Fuller as an unnatural bat attack. Fuller had experimented on bats, and more victims follow. Ally turns to Dr. John Winslow, the local animal controller, for expert help. His inquisitive daughter Genny and her friend Logan, who is practically living at the Winslow house, join the inquiry, which keeps pointing toward Carl Hart, a real estate mogul in town with corrupt dealings.
