Plot summary
Lucy Martin writes copy and lives in Manhattan with her husband Adrian. They have spent two years trying to conceive, without success, and turn to Dr. John Hindle, a leading fertility doctor who taught Adrian. Hindle inseminates Lucy with a technique of his own invention, and she becomes pregnant. An ultrasound shows three babies: twin boys and a girl. Hindle proposes a selective reduction, ending the pregnancy of either the twins or the daughter so the rest can continue, and Lucy and Adrian choose to keep the girl.
