Plot summary
Two novelty salesmen, Jonathan and Sam, share a desolate flophouse and travel in search of buyers for their joke articles. Their calls on customers bring no sales. Its scenes form a series of mostly self-contained tableaux, linked by recurring themes and characters, that move between reality and fantasy and loosely follow the two men. Characters in the tableaux include King Karl XII, a flamenco teacher, a lonesome lieutenant, a captain, a caretaker, a woman called Limping Lotta and a museum couple. It is the third film in a trilogy that also includes Songs from the Second Floor and You, the Living.
