Plot summary
Reynolds Extract is a profitable flavoring extracts company, but its founder Joel Reynolds gets no affection from his wife Suzie. At the plant, a chain of mishaps costs employee Step a testicle. Cindy, a con artist, learns of the accident from a news report and takes a temporary job at the factory, getting Joel to tell her more about Step. She also steals small items from co-workers, who blame each other. Cindy arranges a meeting with Step, and afterward he hires attorney Joe Adler to sue. Joel takes Cindy's interest for genuine attraction and mulls an affair, though he still loves his wife. His friend Dean suggests hiring a man to seduce Suzie, so Joel could have a guilt-free affair too. Joel balks, then agrees after swallowing a ketamine tablet he thought was Xanax.

- Extract was shot in a working water bottling plant south of Los Angeles, in the City of Commerce, and Judge used the plant's employees as extras: they carried on bottling during takes, on machines so loud that they could not hear anyone call action or cut.
- Shortly after completing Office Space, Mike Judge was already about 40 pages into a follow-up script set in the world of an extract factory when his representatives convinced him to shelve it for something more commercial. “The only idea that I had that anyone was interested in was what eventually became Idiocracy,” Judge said.
