Plot summary
Hannah Yoder, eighteen, grew up in an Amish community near Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is preparing for baptism into the church and marriage to Samuel, the man chosen for her. Her friends persuade her to take a Rumspringa, the period when some Amish youth live briefly away from home before joining the church. Hannah and her friends travel to Hollywood, where she at first refuses the different clothing and the parties. Then she meets Josh, a college student who also works part time as a DJ. The two fall in love, and Josh asks her to stay in California with him.
