Plot summary
Megan Walsh is Agent 83, one of the orphans raised at the Prescott Academy and trained by Hardman to work as a field operative, with Agent 84 matching her skills. The academy's rule is no attachments, yet 83 studies teen magazines and imagines life outside. Hardman gives the orphans an assignment to catch Victoria Knox, a dealer in arms; 83 goes undercover in Chechnya among the captives brought before her. She becomes Megan Walsh, a Canadian exchange student, and joins the Larson household in Newtown, Connecticut. Mrs. Larson and her son Parker are welcoming; Liz keeps her distance, and schoolmates mock her. She befriends Roger Marcus and alters the school's computer system so that Cash Fenton, a popular student she is drawn to, becomes her biology lab partner.
