Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Producer Walter Wanger originally planned to adapt Sacha Guitry's 1917 play L'Illusionniste, about the illusionists Émile and Vincent Isola, but the Production Code Administration deemed it too risqué. Screenwriters Gene Towne and G. Graham Baker made so many changes that Wanger billed Eternally Yours as an original screenplay.
- Director Tay Garnett and producer Walter Wanger reused footage from the around-the-world trip they had shot for their previous film together, Trade Winds (1938), and Eternally Yours also featured footage of the 1939 New York World's Fair.
