Plot summary
Van "V.S." Stanhope runs a publishing house in New York and has been married to Linda for three years. His secretary, Helen "Whitey" Wilson, is dedicated and efficient. Whitey is engaged to Dave, who is frustrated when she drops everything to serve the office. When he proposes, she says no and throws herself into her work. Van's mother Mimi believes Whitey is a temptation to her son, and Linda's friends worry too, but Linda refuses to listen, trusting her husband. Van wants to buy a weekly owned by J. D. Underwood to broaden his readers, and only Whitey is allowed to know.

- James Stewart said Clarence Brown, the director, wasn't too pleased by the way he did the smooching in the car scene with Harlow and made them repeat it about half a dozen times. Stewart botched it on purpose, and realized that until then he had never been really kissed.
- Speaking about Harlow during the making of the film, Loy said Jean had begged for a role that didn't require spouting slang and modeling lingerie, and even convinced them to darken her hair a shade in hopes of toning down that brash image.
