Plot summary
Brenda Freeman's husband died of cancer, so she is moving Kelly and Cam, her two children, out of Los Angeles to Houston, with her younger brother Reggie riding along to help the family get back on its feet. At a stop, Kelly brushes off some men who have been flirting with her, and Brenda apologizes to them. Two men who picked up cartel money are driving the same route, and one of them shoots the other and takes off with the cash. The Freemans check into an Arizona motel, where Brenda, a nurse, is woken by a gunshot from the next room. Police question the family the next morning, and soon Sheriff J.D. Hammers wants Brenda back at the motel while another caller demands the money.
