Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Dr. Giggles (1992)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Graeme Whifler's original script, called Mr. Giggles, was heavily rewritten because the producers wanted a horror franchise, and Whifler considered the result inferior. He went back to that first script years later and filmed it himself as writer-director of Neighborhood Watch in 2005.
- Manny Coto rewrote the script again at Largo Entertainment's request, drawing the comic family-doctor material from growing up with a father and a brother who are both doctors. He was aiming for the mix of dark humor and horror of Tales from the Crypt.
- Larry Drake nearly turned down the title role: he had already taken four horror parts since making his name on L.A. Law and feared being typecast. Coto won him over by selling the film as a comic-book picture and playing up the script's humor.
- Largo Entertainment signed an exclusive first-look deal with Dark Horse Comics in August 1992 to film the publisher's properties, and Dr. Giggles was the first picture to come out of that partnership.
