Plot summary
Sam Nussbaum and his fiancée, Steph, live in Los Angeles, and he has not spoken to his younger brother, Tom, in two years. His explanation is that Tom blamed him for bringing Angela, the dog, along when he left for college. Steph meets Tom, an aspiring artist whose parents pay his way, and brings him home without telling Sam. The brothers, for Steph's sake, agree not to let their grudge show before the wedding a week away. Looking through Tom's fifth grade yearbook, Sam and Steph find the name of his childhood sweetheart, Mary Barger, and propose that he invite her to the wedding. Three women in California carry that name, so Sam and Tom get in the car, and their first stop is a woman in Santa Monica who is not the right Mary Barger.
