Plot summary
Max is a single father raising his teenage daughter Wally on his own. He learns that he has a terminal disease, and he decides to drive from California to New Orleans, where his twentieth college reunion is being held. Wally is reluctant to make the trip. What she does not know is that her father has a second reason for going. Her mother left the family long ago, and Max keeps the hope that the reunion will bring mother and daughter together. Along the way, he also tries to pass on what Wally will need to know later in life.
