Plot summary
An atomic explosion tears the Moon loose from its orbit around Earth. Moonbase Alpha, home to three hundred people, drifts through space. John Koenig commands the base, and a crash on the lunar surface left him with a concussion, after which he went through an experimental brain soothing process. A ship from Earth reaches Alpha, traveling faster than light. Its crew comes as a rescue team, and everyone on the base is overjoyed at the prospect of returning to Earth.
