Plot summary
Clementi Sabourin, a Czech refugee, is given a passport by a police prefect and sails for America. At the New York port he meets Bridget Kelly, who has just taken ship passenger Leonard Wilson's wallet, and he takes it from her. Kelly's estranged husband Chuck shoots him in the street. A doctor who removes the bullet tells him about a company that makes penicillin, and Sabourin buys its stock with a cashier's check from the wallet. The wealthy widow Mrs. Ryan makes money on the same stock and lends him twenty thousand dollars.

- Death of a Scoundrel and The Falcon's Brother are the only two films to star real-life lookalike brothers George Sanders and Tom Conway, who play brothers in both pictures.
- Charles Martin offered the female lead to Corinne Calvet and sent the script to Arlene Dahl, Joan Caulfield, Ida Lupino and Constance Bennett; he wanted Rossano Brazzi, Robert Mitchum or Alec Guinness for the male lead.
